R34 GT-Rs are overhyped and overvalued, and it will only get worse when Americans will be able to import them. $115k CAD is hardcore CP for a 15 year old Nissan that was the hero car for five minutes in a crap movie (granted, this is an extreme case, but I imagine other models will be equally absurdly priced).

Having never driven one, I wouldn’t know; however, I couldn’t care less about them or Supras for that matter.

The R34 was chosen for the movie because it was awesome, not the other way around.

Not disagreeing with the hype or the overpriced bit, but they were and are still awesome cars, esp given how well their appearance has aged.

Overpriced. Yes. Overhyped. Maybe. Still great cars worth reverence. Too bad that is already out of reach of people that would really enjoy them for what they are.

I felt that way until someone brought a Supra racecar to my track. HOOOOOOLY SHIT it was so fast and nimble

Fair enough. There usually is a reason these cars are so hyped.

That is an extremely limited production special edition variant of the R34. Total CP, but no different than what people pay for the same type of low number American muscle cars at auction.

Don’t say that. Last time I said something bad about the Skyline on here someone told me to go fuck myself.

But right now would be the best time to buy a R34 before Americans can get their hands on them. Still a CP.

You also picked one of the rare ones (1 of 366) with low miles. Any car that’s was the top of the line for a sportcar and 1 of 366 is going to be expensive. The other thing that many have brought up is it’s more of a forbidden fruit. We could get Supras, RX-7, Evo, STi, NSX, and intergra. The car we couldn’t? Godzilla. It might not be as good as the movies show it or as fast or as exotic but we don’t know because we can only hear the stories from other contries.

Sometimes things are hyped for a reason... That said it is a shame they’re beyond the reach of most enthusiasts.

I mean, the highest production edition of the R34 GT-R was 4,193 out of 11,577 for the V-Spec, and there were sixteen different versions of the R-34. Low numbers, sure, but it’s the sixth most produced version of the R34 GT-R.

I’m not going to call the sixth most produced version of the R34 GT-R an “extremely limited” edition, especially since some editions had below 80 models produced.

I’ll agree with you on low production American muscle also being overpriced.

I’ve been threatened with death for liking both Halo 3 and Half-Life 2 on other forums. I’m used to people being overdramatic.

Now I haven’t driven either, but I could get an R35 for significantly less and be significantly faster lol. I would miss out on the manual, but I think they’re both good looking cars for sure.

I actually hope they stay overpriced, otherwise they’ll suffer the same fate the R32 and R33 have as they’ve gotten cheaper.

Isn’t the whole point of limited production runs to pump up hype/value?

For a collector car, this is pretty typical. Way more than I would pay but not that unusual as far as these things go.

I try to be (somewhat)logical, whereas collector cars tend to be an emotional purchase. Hence the stupid prices.

It’s a fantastic car which is for sale at a ridiculous price. Although, most normal ones go for around £30k here, I’d say those are fair game.

For the record, the movie was a bit rubbish, but that’s just the film - not the car.

HL2 is a confirmed classic. If you don’t agree you’re wrong. Same with the R34 I guess, but people get a bit more finnicky about cars.

Thats actually surprising. When you put it that way it seems Nissan just set the car up for special editions. But I think it still falls back to it was in a movie and we cant get it.

Not exactly the same but Bandit Trans-ams (77-81) are now selling for crazy money. $40k for a clean one, $70s for a rare or low mile. Which is stupid money for them. Maybe 5 years ago you could pic one up for $10k-$15k. I have owned a 80 Firebird, and i can tell you its exactly what you think for late 70s GM, panel gaps, miss matched interior, choked engine, and union quality. But my point is since its a movie car its worth more, i guess.

Cars which define their automotive era tend to bring big money. Think the ‘59 Eldorado, the Corvette Stingray 427/E-Type, the Countach, etc. For the 90's, that’s the Toyota Supra Turbo and this.
